Do you have old letters and photographs you don’t know what to do with? What is the nature of a memory and what is a memory when it is linked to objects like letters and photographs? What does it mean to have memories and how do you feel about forgetting?

Join artist Susan Smereka on this exploration of working with personal ephemera.
Susan will share a number of her processes and explain how she came to use family letters and photographs with sewing (both machine sewing and hand stitching) in her work. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ephemera to work directly with their own personal stories. Participants will hand sew letters and/or photographs to transform these objects. The project time is intended to be only an initial step so that participants will complete their project later on their own time.
